Company UTB – Unified Tax & Technology Businesses Location Baku, Azerbaijan Employment type Full Time Job Position summary We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Tax Manager to join our Tax and Finance Team. The ideal candidate should be able to independently manage client engagements, prepare and submit tax reports, handle accounting and finance matters, and provide practical tax advice on both routine and complex issues. The role involves working primarily with international clients, applying Azerbaijan and International Tax legislation, PSAs and DTTs, and identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes through modern technology and automation. Job responsibilities Tax Compliance and Reporting Prepare and review tax returns and statutory declarations, including VAT, Corporate Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, withholding tax, and other applicable taxes ensuring accurate calculations, reconciliations and timely submission. Manage clients’ payroll tax calculations and related statutory reporting, including personal income tax, social insurance, unemployment insurance, and mandatory medical insurance contributions. Reconcile tax declarations with accounting records, invoices, payments, and general ledger balances, investigate discrepancies, and ensure accurate reporting. Apply relevant provisions of Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs), tax protocols, and Double Taxation Treaties (DTTs) when preparing tax calculations and advising clients (on withholding tax, VAT on non-resident services, permanent establishment risks, and expatriate taxation). Finance and Accounting Review accounting records and financial information for accuracy and completeness. Review reconciliations, journal entries, supporting schedules and financial statements. Assist clients with accounting and finance processes, including implementation or improvement of accounting systems and procedures. Identify accounting or tax reporting issues and coordinate with Line Manager before communicating them to clients. Client Management Manage assigned client accounts and take responsibility for the timely delivery of services. Participate in client meetings and explain tax requirements and potential risks. Coordinate responses to tax authority requests and support clients during tax audits. Maintain good working relationships with clients and ensure that their requirements are addressed on time. Requirements University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or another related field. At least 5 years of relevant experience in taxation and accounting, preferably in consulting firm providing Tax, Accounting, Payroll and Technology) or a similar professional services environment. Strong knowledge of Azerbaijan tax legislation and practical experience in preparing and submitting tax and other statutory reports. Experience with VAT, CIT, PIT, WHT, payroll taxation, and electronic tax reporting. Strong practical knowledge of PSAs, relevant tax protocols, and DTTs, preferably with experience in the oil and gas industry. Experience working with international clients and managing client deliverables. Good understanding of accounting records and financial reconciliations. Experience with accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and 1C. Strong Excel skills and interest in automating daily tasks to improve efficiency and accuracy. Strong English language command (B2 or above), with the ability to communicate confidently with international clients, discuss tax matters, participate effectively in meetings and prepare clear and well-structured e-mail communications. Strong knowledge of Azerbaijani language. Russian language is an advantage. ACCA, Professional Accountant Certificate (PMS) or other relevant professional qualifications are an advantage.
