Hybrid car imports have slumped: down 68% in January-May — what supply on the site shows
The number of «green» cars imported into Azerbaijan fell sharply in January-May 2026. According to figures published by navigator.az:
- Electric cars — 468 units worth 12.35 million dollars: down 39% by volume and 52% by value.
- Hybrids — 2,462 units worth 52.66 million dollars: down 68.1% by volume and 65.9% by value.
- Plug-in hybrids — 6,318 units worth 140.78 million dollars: down 41% by volume and 36.9% by value.
The comparison is with the same period of 2025. Notably, plug-in hybrids remain the largest group by volume — the decline does not mean the segment has stopped.
How the import flow shows up in the catalogue
An import wave turns into second-hand supply a year or two later, so the age split of listings carries its trace. As of 12 September 2026, Prayk's Cars section holds 1,837 listings with hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric fuel type:
- 835 listings — 2024 model year or newer;
- 343 — 2020-2023;
- 659 — 2019 or older.
So about half the segment consists of models from the last two years: the strong 2024-2025 import wave is still feeding supply. Average asking prices stay high: hybrid 29,700, plug-in hybrid 45,300, electric 46,600 AZN, against 19,400 AZN for petrol cars.
What it means for buyers
If the import flow weakens, second-hand supply of newer-generation cars thins out over time — which supports prices rather than pushing them down. The simplest approach: check the market range for the specific model with the calculator, then look at the make-level cut in market prices.
