Oil prices fall on world market: what the correction means and how long it may last

Oil prices retreated in the latest trading session. As navigator.az reports, citing 'Report' and exchange data, June futures for North Sea Brent crude fell 2.63% to 114.28 US dollars per barrel, while May futures for WTI crude dropped 3% to 110.48 dollars. This follows a 1.3% price rise on March 25 and is being described as a correction.

The earlier price rally was linked to Friday's attack on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, claimed by Houthi rebels operating in Yemen. Following that, the coronavirus situation in China — the world's largest oil importer — and its effect on demand contributed to the drop in 'black gold' prices.

Why such volatility

The oil market is weighing several factors at once: geopolitical risks such as attacks on infrastructure, which raise supply concerns, and the possibility of weaker demand from a major consumer like China. Since these forces pull in opposite directions, prices can spike sharply and then correct just as quickly within a short period.

What shows up in the Prayk catalog

Since oil prices directly affect fuel and transport costs, these shifts also ripple into the car market. The Prayk catalog currently lists 45,727 listings in the 'Cars' section, with a median asking price of 14,000 AZN. There are also 27,804 listings for spare parts and accessories — any change in fuel prices can ultimately affect the movement of these markets as well.

Overall, the platform hosts 826,474 listings, of which 154,497 have a location pinned on the map — allowing users to track price changes while also comparing offers in a specific area.

What this means for buyers and sellers

It's not advisable to make hasty decisions based on short-term oil price swings — this is a correction, and prices could shift again in upcoming sessions. For those planning to buy or sell a car, it makes more sense to assess the current market: check prices for similar models in the Cars section, and if needed, estimate costs in advance via the Spare parts section. For tracking price dynamics, the Prices section can serve as an additional source.
