Which sectors employ the most women in Azerbaijan and where salaries are highest

According to navigator.az, Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Milli Majlis Committee on Labor and Social Policy, shared data on women's employment in Azerbaijan on social media. He said that out of the country's employed population, 2 million 414 thousand are women, while men number 2 million 615 thousand. The total number of women in the labor force stands at 2 million 571 thousand.

Which sectors dominate

According to the MP, the number of women employed under labor contracts is 722,147. Of these, 242,801, or 33.6%, work in the education sector — meaning one in three contracted female employees works in this field. Healthcare and social services rank second, employing 116,976 women, or 16.2% of the total share. The top three is rounded out by trade and vehicle repair, where 95,566 women are registered under labor contracts.

Where salaries are highest

Bayramov noted that in terms of average monthly salary, mining leads with 2,915 manats. Financial and insurance activities follow with 1,813 manats. Information and communication ranks third at 1,353 manats. Notably, in education — the sector employing the largest share of women — the average salary is only 731 manats. The MP also said that women's average monthly salary equals 68.9% of men's average salary, whereas the global ratio is typically 77-80%.

The job listings picture is also worth noting: Prayk's Jobs section currently has 3,786 listings, of which 2,670 listings with a stated salary show a median of 700 AZN. This is slightly below the average salary in education (731 manats), suggesting that a large share of listed vacancies fall into the low-to-mid salary range.
