Used building materials in Baku: what to buy and what to avoid

Used building materials in Baku: what to buy and what to avoid

Used building materials can cut the budget for a garage, shed, fence, country house or a rental flat renovation, but not everything is worth buying second-hand. Doors, metal gates, PVC windows, radiators and ceramic sanitaryware are fine to buy after an inspection; rebar and bricks for load-bearing structures, old electrical cable, expired dry mixes and asbestos roof sheets need either a specialist's opinion or a firm no. In Baku, much of this stock is sold in the city itself and the rest in Absheron settlements such as Digah, Masazir and Khirdalan.

Short answer: as of 22 September 2026, Prayk's Repair & Construction section has 340 listings with «işlənmiş» (used) in the title; the median price of the latest 300 is 83 AZN (half fall between 40 and 200 AZN). Windows and doors dominate the supply (122 listings, median 100 AZN), and used plumbing has a median of 43 AZN. 54% of the latest 300 listings are in Baku, and most of the rest are in Digah, Masazir and Khirdalan.

Used building supplies on Prayk: what is there and at what price

The figures come from Prayk's public catalogue on 22 September 2026. Price statistics use only listings priced in AZN. The median is the middle value when listings are sorted by price, so one or two unusually cheap or expensive offers do not move it.

GroupListingsMedian priceMiddle half of listings
Repair & Construction, «işlənmiş» in title34083 AZN40–200 AZN
Windows, doors, balconies — used122100 AZN50–215 AZN
Plumbing — used5243 AZN25–100 AZN
Building materials — used (mostly roof sheets)215 AZN3–8 AZN

Two conclusions follow. First, the used market is built on finished products: of the latest 300 «işlənmiş» listings, 112 are windows, doors and gates, 33 are fireplaces and stoves, 23 are combi boilers and 13 are radiators. Second, raw materials such as bricks, timber and rebar are rarely sold second-hand: the Building Materials section has 2,934 listings, but only 21 have «işlənmiş» in the title, and 16 of those are roofing (mostly old corrugated sheets). If you want bricks or beams from a demolition, also search for «sökülmüş» (dismantled), «köhnə» (old) and «qalıq» (leftover), and ask the seller where the material came from.

Which materials are fine to buy used, and which are not?

The rule is simple: the more «passive» a material is — it carries no load and no gas or electricity runs through it — the lower the second-hand risk. Use the table to decide quickly.

Asbestos roof sheets: why a separate warning

Most old corrugated roof sheets («şifer») are made of asbestos cement. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), all forms of asbestos, including chrysotile, are carcinogenic to humans, and the main risk comes from dust released when the material is cut, broken or worn. Since most used building-material listings on Prayk are exactly these sheets, this is a practical issue, not a theoretical one. Even at a few manats a sheet (half of the used-sheet listings are 3–8 AZN), an asbestos-free roof is the sensible choice for a home, a child's room or an animal shed. See the WHO fact sheet on asbestos, and ask a doctor about any health concerns.

Where to find used building materials in Baku

  • In catalogue sections. Open Prayk's windows, doors and balconies, plumbing or building materials sections and type «işlənmiş» into search — results stay within that section. All renovation goods sit under Repair & Construction.
  • Nearby. With heavy materials, distance is part of the price. The nearby listings page shows sellers close to you. About half of the latest 300 used renovation listings are outside Baku: 46 in Digah, 20 in Masazir, 16 in Khirdalan and 13 in Sumgayit, so if you live on the Absheron side you often do not need to go into the city.
  • New leftovers from renovations. Boxes of tiles, laminate or profiles sold as «leftovers» are usually unused rather than used, and cheaper than in a shop. Ask for the batch (shade) number so the colour matches if you need more later.
  • Demolition sites. When buying from a building being demolished, ask whether the seller has the right to sell the material (ownership or contractor documents). Metal, cable or doors of unclear origin can cause problems later; for legal questions, consult a lawyer.

If the door or window size you need is not listed yet, save your search: the search agent will notify you as soon as a matching listing appears.

Checks before you buy: 7 steps

  1. Measure at home: width and height of the opening and wall thickness for doors and windows; the distance between connections for a radiator.
  2. Ask the seller for close-up photos in daylight — cracks, rust and chips do not show in dark pictures.
  3. Inspect in person: hold sanitaryware to the light, open and close the door in its frame, try the window hardware in every mode.
  4. Agree on what is included: frame, lock, keys, hardware, siphon and fixings.
  5. Who dismantles it? With «pick-up from address» listings the buyer often removes and carries the item — you will need tools and a helper.
  6. Price the transport in advance: for heavy or long loads, get quotes in the freight transport services section; for cheap materials the delivery can cost more than the goods.
  7. Pay when the item is in your hands. Be wary of sellers asking for prepayment for goods you have not seen — Prayk chat flags such requests automatically.

Where do used materials pay off?

Second-hand material works best for garages, sheds, fences, country houses, animal sheds, temporary structures and renovating a flat for rent — places where looks and a long warranty matter less. In loft-style interiors, old brick and wood are also used as decor. In the load-bearing parts of a home (foundation, frame, floor beams), however, the savings are not worth the risk: only an engineer's calculation and testing can confirm a material's strength. If you need installers, see the repair and construction professionals section.

For sellers: how to sell used materials faster

Put the item, material and size in the title (for example, «Used PVC window 150×160 cm, double glazing»), state clearly whether the price is per piece, per m² or per set, and say who handles dismantling and transport. Use the medians above as a guide: half of the used window and door listings are 50–215 AZN, and half of the plumbing listings are 25–100 AZN. More tips are in «8 rules of a listing that sells fast».

Frequently asked questions

How much do used building materials cost in Baku?

As of 22 September 2026, Prayk's Repair & Construction section has 340 listings with «işlənmiş» (used) in the title, and the median price of the latest 300 is 83 AZN. Used windows and doors have a median of 100 AZN (half at 50–215 AZN), plumbing 43 AZN (half at 25–100 AZN), and half of the used roof-sheet listings are 3–8 AZN.

Can used bricks be used in a house?

In non-load-bearing walls such as fences, sheds and partitions, used bricks usually cause no problems. For a load-bearing wall, an engineer should assess the bricks' strength, the removal of old mortar and the masonry design; do not make that decision on price alone.

Is a used combi boiler worth buying?

It can be, but a combi boiler is a gas appliance: check the year of manufacture, service history and availability of spare parts, and have only an authorised gas service connect it. On Prayk, boilers are among the most offered used renovation goods — 23 of the latest 300 «işlənmiş» listings.

Is it dangerous to buy or remove old roof sheets?

Most old corrugated roof sheets are asbestos cement, and the WHO classifies all forms of asbestos as carcinogenic. The main risk is dust from cutting, breaking or dismantling. Do not do such work unprotected, choose asbestos-free roofing for new builds, and ask a doctor about health concerns.

How much does it cost to transport used materials?

Transport cost depends on weight, length, distance and floor level, so there is no single figure. Before buying, get quotes from 2–3 carriers in Prayk's freight transport section, and look for sellers close to you via the nearby listings page to shorten the trip.

Sources and methodology

Listing counts and prices were taken from Prayk's public API on 22 September 2026: the Repair & Construction section (with all subsections) and its Windows, doors, balconies; Plumbing; and Building materials subsections — listings with the word «işlənmiş» (used) in the title. The median and the «middle half» (25th–75th percentiles) are calculated from each group's most recent listings (up to 300) priced in AZN. Prices may be per piece, set or sheet, so the figures are a guide rather than an estimate; used listings without «işlənmiş» in the title are not counted. On asbestos: WHO, «Asbestos» fact sheet.
