School cleaner jobs in Azerbaijan: pay, duties and how to apply

School cleaner jobs in Azerbaijan: pay, duties and how to apply

A school cleaner (often called a "technical worker" in official documents) keeps classrooms, corridors, toilets and the canteen clean, and the working day follows the lesson timetable. As of 22 September 2026, Prayk's Vacancies section has 588 listings with "xadimə" (cleaner) in the title, and the median offered monthly salary is 550 AZN. Listings posted by schools themselves are almost absent from the catalogue, so the shortest route to this job is to approach a school directly.

Short answer: as of 22 September 2026, Prayk has 588 cleaner vacancies; of the latest 300 listings, 293 state a salary, with a median of 550 AZN and half of the offers between 450 and 600 AZN; 97% of the listings are in Baku. For full-time work the monthly wage cannot be below the statutory minimum of 400 manat. Schools rarely advertise, so apply directly to the school administration and to the State Employment Agency.

What does a school cleaner do?

The workload depends on the size of the school and the number of shifts, but the core list is similar everywhere:

  • daily sweeping and mopping of classrooms, corridors and stairs;
  • sanitary cleaning of toilets and washbasins, restocking soap and paper towels;
  • cleaning the canteen, gym and assembly hall before and after events;
  • collecting and taking out rubbish, wiping doors, windows and boards;
  • deep cleaning at the start of the school year and during holidays.

Hours usually follow the lessons: part of the cleaning is done before the first lesson and the main part after pupils leave. Schools with two shifts also need a short clean between shifts. At the interview, always ask when the working day starts and ends and whether Saturday is a working day.

How much are cleaners offered?

The figures below are a snapshot of the Prayk catalogue on 22 September 2026. For vacancies, the listing price is the monthly salary offered by the employer. Some listings state a daily rate (two-digit amounts) and some state no salary at all, so check the unit when you compare.

MetricListingsMedian salaryMiddle half of offers
Vacancies with "xadimə" (cleaner) in the title588550 AZN450–600 AZN
Domestic staff and cleaning vacancies (all roles)877600 AZN500–750 AZN
Job seekers: cleaners' own listings52—hourly, daily and monthly amounts mixed
Vacancies with "məktəb" (school) in the title17—mostly teachers and nursery staff; no cleaner vacancies

Of the latest 300 cleaner vacancies, 183 sit in the Domestic staff and cleaning subsection; the rest are for offices, hotels, gyms, factories and catering. In other words, the market offer comes mostly from the private sector and shows no separate "school rate", so treat 450–600 AZN as a general guide.

The legal floor: under Article 155 of the Labour Code, an employee who works the full monthly working-time norm cannot be paid less than the state minimum. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, this has been 400 manat since 1 January 2025. If you will work part-time, make sure the hours and the amount are written into the contract.

Where to look for a school vacancy?

Schools often hire technical staff without advertising, through recommendations or walk-in applications. So use several channels at once:

  1. Apply to the school directly. Visit the administration of schools near you (the deputy head or the person in charge of facilities) and leave your name, phone number and experience in writing. Even if nothing is open, places often appear during preparation for the new school year.
  2. State Employment Agency. You can register as a job seeker, browse vacancies in the Labour and Employment subsystem and talk to a career adviser through the agency's services — DOST centres and the 142 call centre. We covered the state database separately: more than 65,000 vacancies in the state database.
  3. Vacancies on Prayk. In the Domestic staff and cleaning vacancies section, set a city and salary filter, then save the search — you will get a notification when a matching vacancy is published. Other school and kindergarten roles appear under Education and science vacancies.
  4. Post your own listing. In Job search — Domestic staff and cleaning, state your age, experience, district and the hours you can work. Your phone number is masked in the listing — here is how it is protected from spam calls.

What documents are needed and how is the contract signed?

The main rules are in the Labour Code. The points below are general information; check the official source for your specific situation.

  • ID card. When signing the contract, the employee presents an identity document (Article 48). Hiring cannot depend on whether you are registered at your place of residence, and you should not be asked for extra documents that the employer can obtain from state information systems.
  • Medical certificate. Workplaces in the food industry, catering, healthcare, trade and similar sectors require a health certificate (Article 48, part 5). Ask at the interview which certificate the school needs.
  • Electronic employment contract. With the exceptions listed in the law, an employment relationship arises when the contract is concluded in the electronic information system (Articles 7 and 44). You can check that your contract is registered on the e-Sosial portal.
  • Probation is at most three months, and no more than two weeks for contracts of up to six months (Article 51).
  • Working time cannot exceed 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week (Article 89).
  • Leave. Paid annual leave is at least 21 calendar days (Article 114). Pupils' summer holidays do not automatically apply to technical staff: schools usually do deep cleaning and repairs in summer.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a school cleaner earn in Azerbaijan?

As of 22 September 2026, the 588 cleaner vacancies on Prayk have a median offered monthly salary of 550 AZN, with half of the listings between 450 and 600 AZN. Schools rarely advertise themselves, so the figure reflects the wider market. For full-time work, pay cannot be below the 400 manat minimum wage.

What documents do I need to work as a school cleaner?

Under the Labour Code, the main document is an ID card. Some workplaces, especially those linked to food and catering, also require a health certificate. Hiring cannot depend on registration at your place of residence.

Can a cleaner work part-time?

Yes. Under Article 94 of the Labour Code, a shorter working day or week is set by agreement between the parties and does not restrict the employee's rights. Put the hours and the monthly amount in the contract.

Do school cleaners work during the summer holidays?

Usually yes: pupils' holidays are not the technical staff's leave, and schools use the summer for deep cleaning. An employee's paid annual leave is at least 21 calendar days, with the timing agreed with the employer.

How can I check that my contract is official?

Employment contracts are concluded in an electronic information system, and the employee is also notified of the registration. You can see your contract in your personal account on the e-Sosial portal; if it is not there, ask your employer to explain.

Sources and methodology

Prayk figures were taken on 22 September 2026 from the catalogue's public API: vacancies containing "xadim" in the title (spellings xadimə and xadime), Domestic staff and cleaning vacancies, cleaners' listings in the Job search section, and vacancies with "məktəb" in the title. Medians and the middle half (25th–75th percentiles) were calculated from the latest 300 listings of each query, AZN only and amounts above zero; listings with daily rates are included, so the lower bound may look slightly low. Legal information: Labour Code (Articles 7, 44, 48, 51, 89, 94, 114, 155), the ministry's notice on the minimum wage, e-Sosial: employment contract registration, State Employment Agency.
