How many minutes to the metro? Nearest exit, walking time, a new filter and station pages
For many people looking for a home in Baku, being close to the metro comes first. On Prayk this is now shown in minutes: a property listing names the nearest station, its closest exit and the walking time, the Real estate section has a “To metro ≤ N min” filter, and every station has its own page.
On the listing page: station, exit, route
Property listings have a “Metro” row in their details. Even if the seller did not pick a metro station, the system finds the nearest one from the listing's coordinates. Next to it you see the station exit closest to the listing (by number or landmark), the distance to it and an estimated walking time, such as “~6 min walk”. Tap the exit and Google Maps opens walking directions from the listing to that exit. The metro line in the “What's nearby” block shows the same information.
Property cards in the list also show the nearest station and walking time when the seller has not named one, so you can judge the distance without opening the listing.
How the walking time is calculated
The straight-line distance from the listing to the exit is multiplied by 1.25 (streets are not straight) and divided by 80 metres a minute, about 4.8 km/h. It is an estimate, not a route time from a mapping service — use the exit link for the exact path. The card, the filter and the station page all use the same formula, so “10 minutes” means the same thing everywhere. Exit coordinates come from OpenStreetMap data, which covers the 27 stations of the Baku metro.
The “To metro ≤ N min” filter
The property search panel has a new choice: “To metro: any”, “≤ 5”, “≤ 10”, “≤ 15” and “≤ 20 min”. The filter looks at the listing's actual coordinates, not at the metro name the seller typed: a listing with “Ganjlik” in its title but 5 km from the station will not show up. The flip side is that listings without coordinates do not appear under this filter.
On the morning of 27 September, the Real estate section had more than 2,000 listings within a 10-minute walk of a metro exit.
A page for every station
On the metro map page, station names now link to pages of their own — Ganjlik, for example. Each one gathers property listings within about a 15-minute walk of the station's nearest exit, counts for sale, monthly rent and daily rent, the list of exits (with coordinates and a Google Maps link), nearby stations and frequently asked questions. Each deal type has its own sub-page, such as rentals near Ganjlik metro.
Our data lists 6 exits for Ganjlik station; on the morning of 27 September there were 2,186 property listings within its 15-minute walking zone.
Limits and where to find it
The metro features currently cover the Baku metro and property listings; walking time is an estimate and is only calculated for listings with coordinates.
