Folding beds (raskladushka): types, weight limits and prices

Folding beds (raskladushka): types, weight limits and prices

A folding bed (known locally as a raskladushka) is a portable bed you unfold when you need an extra sleeping place — for guests, at a country house, in a rented flat or a small room — and then fold away into a wardrobe or against a wall. When choosing one, look at three things: the weight limit (the maximum load it takes), the unfolded size, and the sleeping surface — fabric, mesh, slats or a mattress. Prayk's "Folding beds" section currently has 33 listings with a median price of 50 AZN.

Short answer: as of 22 September 2026, Prayk's "Folding beds" section has 33 listings; the median price is 50 AZN and half of the listings sit between 35 and 115 AZN. Across the whole catalogue, 90 listings mention "qatlanan çarpayı" (folding bed; median 51 AZN) and 28 mention "raskladuşka" (median 56 AZN). Most listings are in Baku.

What types of folding bed are there?

All of them fold in the middle, but the sleeping surface and frame differ — and that determines both comfort and the weight limit.

  • Classic fabric folding bed — a tubular metal frame with canvas or dense fabric stretched on springs. Light, cheap and quick to open. Over time the fabric stretches and the middle sags, so it suits guests for a few nights.
  • Mesh or spring-mesh folding bed — metal mesh instead of fabric. Sturdier; usually used with a thin mattress on top, or sold with one.
  • Slatted folding bed — a mattress on wooden or metal slats (thin flexible battens). It folds in half and stands upright, often on castors. More comfortable for home use, but heavy and bulkier when folded.
  • Camp bed — fabric on an aluminium or steel frame, close to the ground. It folds into a bag and is meant for outdoors and tents; it is firm for everyday sleeping at home.

Chair beds, ottoman beds and air mattresses do a similar job. They work as furniture during the day, but usually fall short of a full folding bed on sleeping area and comfort.

What should you check when choosing?

SpecWhy it mattersHow to check
Weight limit (maximum load)The frame, hinges and springs are designed for this loadRead the manufacturer's label; leave a margin above the heaviest user's weight
Unfolded length and widthOn a short bed feet hang off; on a narrow one it is hard to turnLength roughly 15–20 cm more than the tallest user's height
Folded size and weightDecide where it is stored and who will carry itMeasure the wardrobe, under-bed space or balcony in advance
Sleeping surfaceFabric sags; mesh and slats hold their shape betterLie on it and see how much the middle sinks
MattressMost of the comfort comes from the mattressAsk whether a mattress is included and whether it stops the bed folding
Lock, legs, castorsWhen open it must not fold by itself or scratch the floorOpen and close the lock a few times; legs should have rubber caps

Sizes seen in Prayk listings include 190×90, 180×75 and 185×65 cm — the last one a camp bed. For a tall person 180 cm can be too short, so always check the size in the listing or ask the seller.

Where is a folding bed useful?

  • Guests a few nights a year — a classic fabric or mesh model plus a thin mattress. Inexpensive and compact when folded.
  • Country house and summer season — choose a painted or galvanised frame that copes with damp; store it somewhere dry over winter so the fabric does not rot.
  • A frequent extra bed in a small flat — a slatted folding bed with a thick mattress. If someone sleeps on it every night, a regular bed or sofa bed may suit better.
  • Camping and outdoors — a light aluminium camp bed; a household folding bed is heavy and bulky.
  • Night shifts at work — a sturdy-framed model that can be put out of sight during the day.

How much does a folding bed cost on Prayk?

The figures were calculated from the Prayk catalogue on 22 September 2026.

SelectionListingsPrice
"Folding beds" section33median 50 AZN; half 35–115 AZN
Whole catalogue, "raskladuşka"28median 56 AZN; half 44–90 AZN
Whole catalogue, "qatlanan çarpayı"90median 51 AZN; half 40–85 AZN
"Camping, hunting and fishing", word "çarpayı" (bed)185 AZN (single listing)
"Mattresses" section (all sizes)760median of the latest 299 listings 65 AZN; half 30–175 AZN

Practical conclusions from these numbers:

  • Most listings are outside the dedicated section. Of the 90 listings mentioning "qatlanan çarpayı", 54 are in the general "Furniture" section and only 12 in "Folding beds". Try several names in the search box: "raskladuşka", "raskladuska", "qatlanan çarpayı", "yığılan çarpayı", "açılıb-bağlanan çarpayı" and the Russian "раскладушка".
  • Prices sit in a narrow band. All three selections have a median of 50–56 AZN. Listings above 100 AZN include sets with a mattress and new models — when comparing prices, check whether a mattress is included.
  • Baku dominates. 22 of the section's 33 listings are in Baku and 5 in Masazir; 84% of the "qatlanan çarpayı" results are in Baku. Choice in the regions is limited, so ask about delivery up front.
  • Camp beds are rare. The camping section currently has just one camp-bed listing. If you are after one, post a "Looking for" listing or save your search to be notified of new listings.

If you are buying the mattress separately, the Mattresses section has 760 listings, but its median covers double and thick mattresses too. A folding bed needs a single, thin and flexible mattress — a thick one can stop the bed from folding.

What to check when buying a used folding bed?

  • Unfold and fold the bed two or three times in front of the seller: the mechanism should not stick, and the lock must hold firmly when open.
  • Look for bends, cracks and rust on the frame, especially at the welds.
  • On a fabric model check that all springs are in place and the fabric is neither torn nor rotten.
  • On mesh and slatted models there should be no sagging mesh and no broken or loose slats.
  • Sit on it and rock gently: creaking and wobbling mean loose hinges.
  • If a mattress is included, check it for stains, smell and signs of damp.

How to store a folding bed?

Keep it somewhere dry under a dust cover; the damp of a basement or open balcony rusts the frame and rots the fabric. When hinges start to creak, add a drop of machine oil or silicone lubricant. Wash removable fabric and air the mattress from time to time. If the bed winters at a country house, cleaning and repainting spots where rust starts will extend its life.

If you are selling a folding bed

Give the unfolded and folded dimensions, the weight limit (if you know it), frame material and whether a mattress is included, and photograph the bed both open and folded. Post it in the Folding beds section — buyers find it less easily in the general Bedroom furniture list. For price guidance see the market prices page, and write the listing following these rules. A camp bed belongs in Camping, hunting and fishing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a folding bed cost?

As of 22 September 2026, Prayk's "Folding beds" section has 33 listings; the median price is 50 AZN and half of the listings cost 35–115 AZN. The 90 catalogue-wide listings mentioning "qatlanan çarpayı" have a median of 51 AZN. Listings above 100 AZN include sets that come with a mattress.

How much weight can a folding bed hold?

It depends on the model and the weight limit stated by the manufacturer — look for it on the label, in the manual or on the product page. Choose with a margin: the limit should clearly exceed the heaviest user's weight, because the load on the frame briefly rises when someone sits or lies down.

Can you sleep on a folding bed every night?

A classic fabric folding bed is designed for short-term use: the fabric stretches and the middle sags. For a permanent extra bed a slatted folding bed with a thick mattress is more suitable, and for nightly use it is worth considering a regular bed or sofa bed.

What mattress does a folding bed need?

A single mattress matching the unfolded bed size, thin and flexible enough for the bed to fold with it. Instead of a thick mattress that blocks folding, you can use one that is stored separately.

Is a regular folding bed suitable for camping?

Usually not: a household folding bed is heavy and bulky when folded and hard to fit in a car or bag. A light aluminium-framed camp bed is more convenient for camping. Such listings are still scarce on Prayk, so posting a "Looking for" listing helps.

Sources and methodology

Listing counts and prices were taken from Prayk's public catalogue API on 22 September 2026: all 33 listings in "Folding beds", catalogue-wide searches for "raskladuşka" (28) and "qatlanan çarpayı" (90), the word "çarpayı" in "Camping, hunting and fishing" (1 listing) and the latest 299 listings in "Mattresses" (760 in total). The median and the middle half of listings were calculated from AZN prices only. Size examples come from listing titles. A listing price is the seller's asking price; the actual sale price may differ.
