Dining table and chair sets: sizes, materials and Embawood prices

Dining table and chair sets: sizes, materials and Embawood prices

Choosing a dining table and chair set comes down to three questions: how many people will sit at it, whether the room can take that size, and how well the top will stand up to daily use. The price is driven mostly by material, the number of chairs and whether the set is new or used. On Prayk, half of the “masa dəsti” (dining set) listings are priced at 299–749 AZN, and listings with Embawood tables have a median of 300 AZN.

Short answer: as of 22 September 2026, the Prayk “Tables and chairs” section holds 5,853 listings. Of the 1,675 listings matching “masa dəsti” there, the latest 300 have a median price of 450 AZN (half fall between 299 and 749 AZN). The furniture section has 127 listings mentioning Embawood with a median of 300 AZN; the 30 of them related to tables also have a median of 300 AZN (half at 270–428 AZN). A family of four is usually well served by a 120×80 cm rectangular table or a 100 cm round one.

What table size do you need for how many people?

The basic rule is simple: each diner needs about 60 cm of table edge, and 65–70 cm to sit comfortably. A table narrower than 80 cm cannot hold plates, salad bowls and a teapot at the same time. Leave at least 75–90 cm between the table and a wall or cabinet so people can push their chair back and stand up; if others will walk behind the chairs, that gap should be closer to 100 cm. The table below is based on these ergonomic rules of thumb — check the exact size against your own floor plan.

An extendable table for a small flat

If three or four people eat together every day but you need room for eight on holidays, an extendable table makes sense: folded, it fits in the kitchen; extended, it moves to the living room. When checking the mechanism, see where the extra leaf is stored, whether a step forms at the joint and whether the legs share the load evenly.

Height: the table and chairs must match

A standard dining table is about 75 cm high and a chair seat about 45 cm. With 25–30 cm between seat and tabletop, knees do not hit the table apron. If you choose armchairs, measure in advance whether the arms slide under the table — otherwise the chairs will always stand away from it.

Which material should you choose?

The tabletop takes the most punishment: hot dishes, water, scratches, children’s games. Here is how the materials compare:

  • Solid wood. Heavy and expensive, but scratches can be sanded out and a well-kept table lasts for many years. A used solid-wood set in good condition holds its value better than other materials.
  • MDF and laminate. Light, available in many colours and shapes, and inexpensive. The weak point is water: once the edge banding lifts, moisture gets in and the board swells — and a swollen spot never goes back.
  • Glass. Hygienic, easy to wipe and visually enlarges a small room. Make sure it is tempered glass; fingerprints and scratches show more on dark glass.
  • Ceramic and engineered stone. Resistant to heat and scratches, but heavy, and an impact on the edge can chip it.
  • Metal frame. Strong and stable; welds should show no rust or cracks.

For chairs, upholstery matters a lot. Fabric such as velour is warm and comfortable but stains — removable, washable covers are a plus. Faux leather wipes clean, but cheap versions crack after a few years. For families with small children, wipe-clean upholstery or wooden seats are the practical choice.

What do Embawood sets sell for?

Embawood is a well-known local furniture manufacturer, and its official website lists tables and chairs as a separate section. The price of a new set and the warranty and delivery terms are best checked directly on the manufacturer’s official website — this article only looks at listings on Prayk.

On 22 September 2026, the Prayk furniture section had 127 listings mentioning Embawood, with a median price of 300 AZN and half of them between 190 and 465 AZN. Of these, 19 are sofas, 14 are tables and chairs and 11 are bedroom sets, while 58 sit in the general “Furniture” section. The 30 table-related listings have a median of 300 AZN (half at 270–428 AZN), and the examples include extendable tables with six chairs. 92 of the listings are in Baku.

Note that the median for all dining sets (450 AZN) is higher than for Embawood listings. That does not mean the brand is cheap. Some listings carrying the Embawood name are used sets sold from home, while the overall list also contains many new sets from shops. A brand name in the title does not prove the item is genuine — look at the label, the receipt or the purchase contract.

New or used?

A new set brings a warranty, a choice of colours and often delivery and assembly from the shop. A used set is cheaper and can be collected immediately. In the Prayk Tables and chairs section, the median of all listings (coffee tables and computer desks included) is 300 AZN, with half between 149 and 480 AZN. The Chairs section has 815 listings and a median of 90 AZN, but the price is sometimes per chair and sometimes for a set of four to six — always check the number of chairs in the listing text.

How to inspect a used set on the spot

  1. Grab the table by a corner and rock it gently. Wobble means loose joints: a screw can be tightened, but a broken wooden joint needs a craftsman.
  2. On MDF and laminate, check the edge banding and the bottom of the legs — a spot swollen by water will not flatten out.
  3. Extend and close an extendable table twice: is the leaf there, and has it faded compared with the main top?
  4. Sit on every chair and lean back: there should be no creaking and no cracks where the legs join.
  5. Look for stains, tears and sagging foam on the upholstery, and ask whether the covers come off.
  6. Run a finger along the edge of a glass top — a small chip can turn into a crack over time.
  7. Measure everything yourself with a tape, and measure the width of doors, the lift and the stairs in advance.

For transport, the safest approach is to remove the legs, wrap the top in a blanket or cardboard and carry any glass separately. For dismantling and assembly, see the Prayk furniture assembly and repair section.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a dining table for six be?

For six people, the usual choice is a rectangular table 160–180 cm long and 90 cm wide, or a round table 130–150 cm in diameter. Since you need 75–90 cm around the table to pull chairs out comfortably, that part of the room should be roughly 3.4 × 2.4 m.

How much does a used Embawood table and chair set cost?

On 22 September 2026, the 30 table-related Prayk listings mentioning Embawood had a median price of 300 AZN, with half between 270 and 428 AZN. The median of all 127 Embawood listings in the furniture section was also 300 AZN. Check the price of a new set on the manufacturer’s official website.

MDF or solid wood table?

An MDF or laminate table is cheaper, lighter and comes in any colour, but it is sensitive to water: when the edge banding lifts, the board swells. Solid wood is heavier and more expensive, but scratches can be repaired and it lasts for many years. If the table sees heavy daily use, the tabletop material matters more than the rest of the set.

Round or rectangular table?

A round table suits four to six people in a roughly square room: there are no corners, everyone can see each other and it is safer for children. A rectangular table fits better in a long room or against a wall and is more practical when you need to seat eight or more.

Can I buy the table and chairs separately?

Yes. The Chairs section on Prayk has 815 listings, and chairs are often sold in sets of four or six. When buying separately, check that the seat height matches the table: there should be 25–30 cm between the seat and the tabletop.

Sources and methodology

Figures were taken on 22 September 2026 from the public listing feed of the Prayk catalogue: the Tables and chairs section (5,853 listings), the “masa dəsti” query within it (1,675), the “embawood” (127) and “embawood masa” (30) queries in the Furniture section, and the Chairs section (815). Medians and ranges (p25–p75) are calculated only from the most recent listings priced in AZN (the latest 300 per section, or all of them in small samples). A listing price is the seller’s asking price, not the final deal price. Size recommendations are general ergonomic guidelines. Official brand information: embawood.az.
