Chair covers: fabrics, sizing, care, and renting vs buying for events

Chair covers: fabrics, sizing, care, and renting vs buying for events

A chair cover is a fabric slipcover that brings old or mismatched chairs into one style, protects the seat from stains and dresses up a banquet hall. For home use people choose washable stretch (spandex) or cotton covers; for weddings and banquets, polyester, satin or stretch covers plus a decorative sash. For a one-off event renting is usually better value, for frequent use buying. To be upfront: Prayk has very few dedicated chair-cover listings so far, so below we show data from the closest sections.

Short answer: as of 22 September 2026, Prayk's "Furniture covers" section has no listings, and the "Textiles" section has 12 listings mentioning "üzlük" (cover) at 5–190 AZN — seat covers, sofa and armchair covers, cushion covers. For comparison, the "Chairs" section has 815 listings; the latest 300 have a median price of 87 AZN, with half between 45 and 182 AZN. These figures help you decide whether to refresh a chair with a cover or replace it.

What types of chair cover are there?

  • Full cover — covers the back and seat completely, with a floor-length or short skirt. The classic choice for wedding and banquet halls.
  • Stretch cover — made of elastane-blend fabric that stretches to the chair's shape. Works at home and at modern-style events, and does not crease.
  • Seat cover — covers only the seat and is held by elastic or ties. The simplest option for kitchen and dining chairs.
  • Back cover — covers only the chair back, mostly for decoration.
  • Sash (bow) and decor — a strip of fabric tied over a full cover; to set an event's colour scheme, changing the sash is enough without changing the covers.

For standard banquet chairs in event halls a cover is practically a must. Decorative metal or wooden "Chiavari" chairs usually get only a seat cushion — a full cover would hide their look.

How to measure a chair correctly?

Whether a cover fits depends on size, so measure the chair before ordering or buying:

  1. Back width — at the widest point of the back.
  2. Back height — from the seat to the top of the back.
  3. Seat width and depth — front to back and side to side.
  4. Seat height from the floor — important for a floor-length full cover.
  5. Shape — is the back straight, curved or wider at the top; if the chair has armrests, a standard chair cover will not fit.

Sellers of stretch covers usually state the size range a cover fits — compare your measurements with it. Ordering one sample and fitting it before buying a full set saves disappointment. Sending the seller a photo of your chair helps too.

Weddings and events: rent or buy?

FactorRenting makes more sense if…Buying makes more sense if…
Number of eventsIt is a one-off wedding or birthdayYou run a restaurant, hall or decor business and need covers many times a year
Colour and styleYou want a different colour for each eventYou buy neutral covers and change only the sashes
CareYou do not want to deal with washing, ironing and storageYou have the space and means to wash and store them
Chair typeThe decorator picks sizes for the venue's chairsYour chairs are fixed and their size is known
RiskThe contract clearly covers stains and tearsYou can replace a damaged cover yourself

A simple calculation: divide the purchase price of one cover by its rental price for one event. The result shows after how many events buying pays off; then add washing, ironing, storage and damaged covers. Many wedding halls include covers in their service package, so ask the venue first.

Can you find chair covers on Prayk?

The figures come from the Prayk catalogue on 22 September 2026. Data on this topic is thin, and we show it as it is.

  • Dedicated chair-cover offers are almost absent. For buyers that means little choice; for seamstresses, decorators and textile sellers it is an open niche with no competition. If you need covers for home, look at the seat covers in Textiles — for example, two listings offer seat covers at 29 and 49 AZN.
  • Cover or new chair? In Chairs half of the listings cost 45–182 AZN, but some listings are sets of several chairs (six, for example), so the price per chair can be lower. If the frame is solid, a cover or reupholstering the seat saves money; if the chair wobbles, a cover only hides the problem.
  • Having covers made. If ready-made covers are not available, buy fabric in Fabrics and have a seamstress sew them — especially for non-standard chairs.
  • Renting for an event. Rental listings are scarce, so ask providers in Decorations whether covers are included in their package, or post a "Looking for" listing stating how many chairs, which colour and what date.

How to care for chair covers?

Follow the wash and iron symbols on the label. Before washing, remove sashes, bows and pins and turn the cover inside out. Stretch fabric loses its shape at high temperatures, so choose a delicate cycle and low temperature and avoid the tumble dryer. Iron satin inside out on low heat so it keeps its sheen. Treat stains straight away — an old stain stays on light fabric. Fold covers only when completely dry and store them somewhere dry and out of the sun. For events, keep one or two spare covers to swap out a stained or torn one quickly.

If you sell or rent out chair covers

State the fabric, colour, quantity, which chairs the covers fit (size range) and rental terms, and photograph a cover on a chair. Post home covers in Textiles and event styling services in Decorations. The Furniture covers section is empty right now — the first listings there will stand out. Posting a listing takes a minute (here is how), and the rules of a listing that sells fast are in this guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do chair covers fit every chair?

No. Stretch covers fit most chairs within a certain size range, but may not fit chairs with armrests, very wide chairs, round backs or unusual shapes. Before buying, measure the back width and height and the seat width and depth, and compare them with the range the seller states.

Is it better value to rent or buy chair covers for a wedding?

For a one-off wedding or celebration, renting is usually better value: no washing, ironing or storage costs and a wider choice of colours. If you need covers many times a year (restaurant, hall, decor business), divide the purchase price by the rental price per event to see after how many events buying pays off. Many wedding halls include covers in their service package.

Which fabric is practical for home chair covers?

For everyday use, elastane-blend stretch fabric and water-repellent treated fabric are practical: they fit the chair snugly, do not crease and stains come off easily. Cotton is natural and pleasant but creases and may shrink in the wash. Velvet looks warm but is harder to care for.

Can you find chair covers on Prayk?

As of 22 September 2026, Prayk has almost no dedicated chair-cover listings: the "Furniture covers" section is empty, and the "Textiles" section has 12 listings mentioning "üzlük" (5–190 AZN). If you cannot find what you need, post a "Looking for" listing or buy fabric in the "Fabrics" section and have covers made.

How should chair covers be washed?

Follow the label symbols: remove decor, turn the cover inside out, and use a delicate cycle at low temperature for stretch and satin fabrics. Avoid the tumble dryer, iron satin inside out on low heat, and put covers away only when completely dry.

Sources and methodology

Listing counts and prices were taken from Prayk's public catalogue API on 22 September 2026: the "Furniture covers" section (0 listings), a catalogue-wide search for "stul üzlüyü" (1), the word "üzlük" in "Textiles" (12), the latest 300 listings in "Chairs" (815 in total), and the word "stul" in "Holidays, events" (1) and "Equipment rental" (2). The median and the middle half of listings were calculated from AZN prices only; no median is given for groups under 15 listings. A listing price is the seller's asking price. Fabric care advice is general — always follow the product label.
