Removals and freight in Baku: what drives the price of a move

The price in a Baku freight listing is usually not the final cost of the job but a "starting" price: on 27 September 2026, general freight listings in Prayk's "Freight transport services" section had a median price of 10 AZN, with half listed between 6 and 30 AZN. The real cost of a home move depends on the size of the van, the number of movers, the floor and lift, the distance and the packing — this guide explains each factor and how to pin down the price.

Short answer: the 5–30 AZN figure in a listing is often just the call-out or minimum price for the vehicle. The final price is made up of the vehicle type (small or large van), movers, the floor and whether there's a lift, the route length, dismantling and reassembling furniture, and packing. When you call, give a list of items, the floors at both addresses and the lift situation, and agree in writing on the final amount and what it includes.

What do freight listings on Prayk charge?

On 27 September 2026 the Freight transport services section held 90 listings, 72 of them in Baku. After separating out listings whose titles mention construction waste and rubbish removal, equipment rental, courier delivery or job vacancies, general freight looks like this:

SegmentPriced listingsMedian, AZNMiddle half, AZN
General freight (all cities)54106–30
General freight — Baku only41106–29
Construction waste and rubbish removal202020–21

The median is the price in the middle when listings are sorted by price; the "middle half" column is the range of the central 50%. Don't read these figures as the final price of a move: 13 of the 54 general listings give a price of 5 AZN or less, which is clearly a symbolic figure meaning "price by agreement". The listing texts are more informative. For example, one listing sets out an in-city tariff (up to 15 km): small van (1.80 m body) from 20 AZN, medium (2.50 m) from 30 AZN, large (3.30 m) from 35 AZN; another says "van plus a mover — 50 AZN". These examples show how prices are built, but they are not the middle of the market.

The services mentioned most often in listing texts are home moves (26 of 90 listings), transport to the regions, piano moving (12 listings), packing (10) and movers (8).

What makes up the price of a move?

  • Vehicle size and type. A small van suits the contents of a one-room flat or a few pieces of furniture; a large van or flatbed truck suits a 2–3-room flat. A small vehicle is cheaper, but two trips can cost more than one big one.
  • Movers. Often only the driver is included. Ask separately how many movers there will be and what they charge: a fridge, washing machine or wardrobe usually needs at least two people.
  • Floor and lift. Say which floor you're on at both addresses, whether there's a service lift and whether large furniture fits in it. A high floor without a lift adds a lot of work.
  • Distance and time. In-city moves are usually priced as a flat or hourly rate; moves to the regions or between cities by route. Rush hours stretch the time.
  • Dismantling and reassembling furniture. Taking apart a wardrobe, bed and kitchen units and putting them back together at the new place is separate work with a separate fee — ask whether a fitter is included.
  • Packing. Cardboard boxes, stretch film, corner protectors, foam sheets. You can buy the materials yourself or order them from the mover.
  • Special items. A piano, safe, aquarium or large mirror needs special tools and experience; the price is usually agreed separately.

What should you ask on the phone?

  1. What does the final price cover? Vehicle, driver, movers, carrying to the floor, dismantling and reassembly, packing materials — ask about each one.
  2. Is the price fixed or hourly? If hourly, when does the clock start — when the van sets off or when it arrives?
  3. Is there a charge for waiting or an extra address?
  4. Who is liable for damage? Agree on compensation for broken or scratched items in advance. Few movers offer insurance — only one of the 90 listings mentions it — so protect valuables yourself.
  5. When do you pay? Paying after the job is normal. A demand to "transfer money in advance to book the van" is a risk: don't send a deposit to someone you don't know. More: online scam schemes.

Keep the agreement in writing — in Prayk chat or by message: date, time, addresses, vehicle, number of movers and the final amount. If a dispute arises, that conversation will be your only evidence.

How to prepare for moving day

  • Get rid of what you don't need beforehand. Every wardrobe you don't move saves money. Sell furniture and appliances you no longer use before the move — see our guide on how to sell old furniture.
  • Label boxes by room ("kitchen", "bedroom") so movers can take them straight to the right room.
  • Pack fragile items separately: wrap dishes in paper and write "fragile" on the box.
  • Switch off the fridge a day early and defrost it; drain the washing machine.
  • Keep documents, cash, jewellery and electronics with you rather than in the truck.
  • Check the building's rules: talk to the building management in advance about using the service lift, truck access to the yard and quiet hours.
  • At the new address, photograph the meter readings and any existing damage — important for getting your deposit back on a rented flat.

How to find and choose a mover on Prayk

Freight listings sit in the Logistics subsection of Services; for a move, go straight to Freight transport services. If you need someone to dismantle and assemble furniture, look in Masters. When choosing:

  • check whether the listing has a real photo of the vehicle, the body size and the load capacity;
  • see whether movers, packing and dismantling are offered;
  • ask several movers for a price using the same list — you can only compare like with like;
  • if you're moving to a new city or district, see our guide to rent prices in Baku for your flat search.

Frequently asked questions

How much does freight transport cost in Baku?

On 27 September 2026 the median starting price in general freight listings on Prayk was 10 AZN, with half between 6 and 30 AZN. But that is often just the call-out for the vehicle; movers, floors, distance and furniture assembly can multiply the final price. Ask for an exact price with your list of items.

What is included in the price of a home move?

It depends on the mover. The vehicle and driver are usually included; movers, carrying to the floor, dismantling and reassembling furniture and packing materials may be charged separately. Ask about each item on the phone and agree on the final amount in writing.

How much does construction waste removal cost?

In Prayk's construction waste and rubbish removal listings the median price on 27 September 2026 was 20 AZN (20 listings). The final price depends on the volume, the vehicle type (for example, a tipper) and the loading work.

Should I pay the mover in advance?

Usually not — payment is made after the job. A stranger asking for a "booking deposit" is a risk; such messages are automatically flagged with a warning in Prayk chat.

What if something gets damaged?

Photograph and record the damage straight away, while the mover is still there. Agreeing on compensation before the job starts is the best protection. This is general information, not legal advice — consult a lawyer if there is a dispute.

Sources and methodology

The figures come from Prayk's public catalogue API on 27 September 2026: all 90 listings in "Services → Logistics → Freight transport services". Listings were split by title: construction waste/rubbish/demolition removal (20 priced listings), equipment rental and sales, courier delivery, vacancies and prices above 1,000 AZN were excluded from the general freight statistics; the median and 25th–75th percentiles were calculated from the remaining 54 priced listings, and separately from 41 listings in Baku. The share of service types was counted by searching for keywords (home move, piano, packing, movers, insurance) in listing titles and texts. The listed price is the starting or minimum price set by the seller, not the amount actually paid; the tariff examples come from specific listings and don't represent the middle of the market. We don't publish a median for segments with fewer than 15 listings.
