Choosing a sofa or corner sofa: mechanism, filling, fabric and prices

There are three main questions when choosing a sofa: where it will stand (size and shape), whether it will be an everyday bed (mechanism) and how long it will last (frame, filling, upholstery). As of 27 September 2026, Prayk's "Sofas" section holds 4,164 listings; the median price of recent listings is 319 AZN, with corner sofas offered at about 330 AZN and straight sofas at 259 AZN. Below you will find a price table, how the mechanisms differ, how to choose materials and a checklist for buying a used sofa.
Short answer: as of 27 September 2026, sofa listings on Prayk have a median price of 319 AZN (half between 200 and 450 AZN). Corner sofas have a median of 330 AZN, straight sofas 259 AZN, sofa beds 324 AZN and sofas marked as used 280 AZN. Sofa-and-armchair sets cost more, with a median of 500 AZN. For sleeping on every night, choose a eurobook or accordion mechanism with a flat surface, a solid frame and dense foam.
How much do sofas cost on Prayk?
The table is based on the 300 most recent listings in the "Sofas" section; covers, repair services and "wanted" posts were excluded (289 listings remained). Segments were identified by keywords in the title and description. The median is the middle price: half of the listings are cheaper, half are more expensive. "Middle half" is the range of the middle 50%.

|---|---|---|---|
| All sofas | 289 | 319 | 200–450 |
| Corner sofa | 131 | 330 | 273–600 |
| Straight (non-corner) sofa | 158 | 259 | 172–450 |
| Sofa bed (folds out) | 130 | 324 | 229–449 |
| Does not fold out | 25 | 270 | 160–370 |
| With storage box | 152 | 300 | 220–449 |
| Velour or velvet upholstery | 37 | 319 | 250–350 |
| Leather or faux leather upholstery | 47 | 319 | 165–450 |
| Marked as used | 99 | 280 | 190–495 |
| Upholstered furniture sets (separate section, last 200 listings) | 197 | 500 | 280–850 |
Sofa listings rarely name the mechanism: in our sample the word for "book" (click-clack) appeared in a single listing, and eurobook, accordion and dolphin were not mentioned at all. That is why we do not compare prices by mechanism — ask the seller how the sofa unfolds, or request a video.
Which mechanism suits you?
- Book (click-clack). The seat is lifted and the backrest drops down flat. It is the simplest and cheapest mechanism, but you have to pull the sofa slightly away from the wall every time.
- Eurobook. The seat slides forward and the backrest is laid into the space it leaves. You get a wide, flat bed, there is usually a storage box under the seat and the sofa does not need to move away from the wall. It is one of the most popular choices for sleeping on every night.
- Accordion. The seat pulls forward and the two parts of the backrest unfold like an accordion. The bed is long and seamless, but you need about two metres of free space in front.
- Dolphin. A block is pulled out from under the seat and lifted up — common in corner sofas. It unfolds quickly, but if you will sleep on it daily, open and close it several times on the spot and check that the extra block sits level with the seat.
For a sofa that is only occasionally unfolded for guests, the mechanism matters less; for an everyday bed, a flat surface, a sturdy metal mechanism and dense foam are what count.
Frame, filling and upholstery: what are you paying for?
- Frame. Kiln-dried solid wood and good plywood last longer; a frame made only of chipboard is cheaper but soon loosens at the joints. Ask the seller what the frame is made of.
- Filling. Seats usually use polyurethane foam or a spring unit. The higher the foam density, the later it sags. Spring units can be interconnected (bonnell) or pocket springs; pocket springs follow the body better. Synthetic fibre in back cushions is soft but compresses over time.
- Upholstery. Velour and chenille are soft, matting is tough and breathable, faux leather wipes clean but scratches easily, and genuine leather is the most expensive. In a home with children or pets, choose an abrasion-resistant fabric (a high Martindale rating) that is easy to clean, ideally with removable covers.
How to work out the size
- Measure the spot where the sofa will stand and allow for how much space it takes when unfolded (accordion and book mechanisms need room in front).
- For a corner sofa, choose a left- or right-hand corner according to the room layout; on some models the corner side can be switched — ask.
- For two people to sleep, the bed should be roughly 140 cm wide or more.
- Measure the width of the doors, the lift and the turn of the staircase: a large corner sofa that does not come apart may not fit into the flat.
What should you check before buying a used sofa?
- Hygiene. Smell it and look for stains and signs of damp. Check under the cushions, along the seams and in the corners of the frame: tiny black dots or traces of insects may point to bedbugs — do not buy such a sofa.
- Frame. Sit down and rock: there should be no creaking, wobbling or sagging. The legs should be firmly attached.
- Mechanism. Unfold and fold the sofa at least two or three times; it should not jam, and there should be no bent metal or broken springs.
- Foam. Sit on the edge and in the middle of the seat: a sunken "pit" means the foam is worn out.
- Upholstery. Look for worn patches, tears, fading and check that the zips work.
- Transport. Agree in advance whether the sofa comes apart and who pays for delivery.
After buying a used sofa, a professional clean makes sense — see upholstered furniture cleaning. For reupholstery or mechanism repairs, technicians are listed under furniture assembly, repair and restoration. If you want to sell your old sofa, our guide on how to sell old furniture will help.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a sofa cost on average?
As of 27 September 2026, the median price of the 289 sofa listings we measured on Prayk is 319 AZN, with half between 200 and 450 AZN. Corner sofas have a median of 330 AZN and straight sofas 259 AZN.
Which mechanism is best for sleeping every night?
The eurobook and accordion, with a flat and wide sleeping surface, are among the most comfortable options for daily use. The book mechanism is simple but requires moving the sofa away from the wall; the dolphin unfolds quickly in corner sofas but should be tested beforehand.
Corner sofa or straight sofa?
A corner sofa offers more seating and usually a wider bed, but it takes up space and is harder to move. On Prayk the median corner sofa costs 330 AZN and the median straight sofa 259 AZN.
Is it safe to buy a used sofa?
If it passes inspection, yes: sofas marked as used have a median price of 280 AZN. There should be no traces of insects, smell or damp in the seams and under the cushions; have it professionally cleaned after purchase.
Which upholstery is best with pets?
Choose a hard-wearing, tightly woven fabric that is easy to clean, ideally with removable washable covers. Faux leather wipes clean easily but is quickly scratched by claws.
Sources and methodology
The figures come from Prayk's public catalogue API on 27 September 2026: the 300 most recent listings in "Goods → Furniture → Upholstered furniture → Sofas" (published 24–27 September 2026) and the 200 most recent listings in "Upholstered furniture sets" (197 after the same filters). From the sofas, covers, repair services and "wanted" posts, as well as listings under 30 AZN, were excluded, leaving 289 listings. The corner/straight, folding/non-folding, storage, upholstery and "used" segments were identified by keywords in the title and description, so the split is approximate, and one listing may fall into several segments. Medians and 25th–75th percentiles were calculated only from listings priced in AZN; we do not publish a median for segments with fewer than 15 listings. Listing counts (4,164 sofas, 1,703 upholstered furniture sets) are as of 27 September 2026. Prices are sellers' asking prices. Information on mechanisms and materials is a generally accepted technical explanation; confirm the specifications of a particular model with the manufacturer or seller.
