Buying a game console: PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch — prices and checks

Azerbaijan's game console market runs on PlayStation: as of 27 September 2026, most of the 701 listings in Prayk's "Gaming consoles" section are PS5, PS4 and PS3. The median asking price is 1,100 AZN for a used PS5, 400 AZN for a PS4 and 240 AZN for a PS3. Xbox and Nintendo Switch listings are still scarce. Below you will find a price table by model, the differences between generations and what to check before buying a used console.

Short answer: as of 27 September 2026, used PS5 listings on Prayk have a median price of 1,100 AZN (43 listings, half of them between 950 and 1,200 AZN); PS4 Pro is 490 AZN, PS4 Slim 400 AZN, the original PS4 350 AZN and PS3 240 AZN. Before paying, make sure the console is signed out of the seller's account, has unmodified firmware, its controllers show no stick drift and the disc drive reads discs.

How much do game consoles cost on Prayk?

The table is based on the 300 most recent listings in the "Gaming consoles" section plus the results of a "PS5" search in the same section (duplicates removed). Game discs, standalone controllers, PlayStation Portal, "wanted" posts and other non-console items were excluded. The median is the middle price: half of the listings are cheaper, half are more expensive. The "Middle half" column shows the range of the middle 50% (between the lower and upper quartile).

We do not publish a median for models with fewer than 15 listings. Only one listing named the PS5 Digital Edition in its title, so we could not compare disc and digital prices separately. Handhelds have their own section: Portable game consoles had just 21 listings on 27 September 2026 (mostly PSP and PS Vita), with a median price of 125 AZN.

Which generation should you choose: PS5, PS4 or older?

• PS5 (since 2020) is the current generation. The original was followed by the more compact PS5 Slim, and in 2024 by the more powerful PS5 Pro (there were no PS5 Pro listings in our sample). Many new games are now released for PS5 only.
• PS4 (since 2013) comes in three versions: the original ("Fat"), the compact Slim and the Pro with 4K output. On Prayk, the median gap between PS5 and PS4 is about 700 AZN. On a tight budget, a PS4 still makes sense for football games and older hits, but new titles are gradually skipping it.
• PS3 and PS2 are for collectors and nostalgia. Half of the PS3 listings are between 200 and 265 AZN.
• Xbox Series X/S: the Series X has a disc drive, the Series S does not and is smaller. There are few such listings on Prayk, so you may have to wait for the right one.
• Nintendo Switch is a handheld that also connects to a TV; the Lite version works in handheld mode only. Switch game cartridges are sold more often than the console itself.

Mind compatibility: most PS4 games run on a PS5, but a PS5 disc will not work on a PS4. PlayStation Portal is not a standalone console but a remote-play device for PS5 games; it is useless without a PS5.

Disc or digital edition?

The digital edition has no optical drive: you can only buy and download games from the online store. The advantage of a disc edition is the second-hand market — you can sell or swap a finished game and buy used discs cheaply. Prayk's Console games section had 539 listings on 27 September 2026. A disc drive can be bought separately and attached to the digital PS5 Slim; such drives are sold too — our sample included one offered for 220 AZN. Online multiplayer may require a paid subscription such as PlayStation Plus, so budget for it.

What do listings often mention?

About half of the 185 PS5, PS4 and PS3 listings in our sample (90 listings) promise two controllers. One in ten (18 listings) says the console is "jailbroken", i.e. its system software has been modified, and a similar number of sellers include an "account", installed games or a subscription. These details affect the price, but they also carry risks — see the checklist below.

What should you check before buying a used console?

1. Model code. The code on the sticker underneath (starting with CFI- on a PS5 and CUH- on a PS4) should match the model in the listing.
2. Account sign-out. The seller should sign out of their PlayStation account and deactivate the console as their primary console; on a PS5 this is the "Console Sharing and Offline Play" setting. Ideally, have them fully reset the console in front of you.
3. Online access and bans. Connect the console to the internet with your own account and check that PlayStation Network sign-in, updates and the store work. A banned console cannot connect to online services.
4. Modified firmware. A jailbroken console may come with games installed for free, but it usually cannot take system updates and is risky on official online services. Choose it knowingly, not as a "bonus".
5. Controller drift. If the cursor or in-game camera moves without you touching the sticks, that is drift. Test both sticks, every button, the triggers, vibration, the charging port and battery life.
6. Disc drive. Insert a disc: the game should start and the drive should run without unusual noise.
7. Heat and noise. Play for 15–20 minutes: there should be no roaring fan, burning smell, freezes or signal loss. Inspect the HDMI port.
8. Seals and repairs. Ask whether the case has been opened and whether the warranty seal is intact; if it has been repaired, find out what was replaced.
9. Storage. Check in the settings that the storage capacity matches the listing.

Pay only after checking. Stay away from sellers who ask for a deposit before you have seen the item: in Prayk chat, messages that request payment or contain a card number get an automatic warning. If you need a repair, technicians are listed under game console repair.

How to find a console on Prayk and check the price

All listings are in the Gaming consoles section; controllers, steering wheels and other add-ons are under accessories. To compare a specific listing with the market, open the Check a listing report on the listing page: it shows similar listings, price history and seller signals. If the model you want (say, an Xbox Series X or a Switch OLED) is not listed yet, save your search and you will be notified when one appears. How much does a used PS5 cost?

As of 27 September 2026, the median price of the 43 PS5 listings we measured on Prayk is 1,100 AZN, with half of them between 950 and 1,200 AZN. The PS5 Slim median is 1,125 AZN and the original version's median is 1,035 AZN.

Does buying a PS4 still make sense?

If your budget is limited and the games you want are available on PS4, yes: the median PS4 price is 400 AZN, roughly 700 AZN less than a PS5. But many new games are PS5-only, so the PS5 is the safer long-term choice.

Should I buy a jailbroken console?

Weigh the legal and technical risks: a console with modified system software usually cannot receive official updates, and connecting it to PlayStation Network risks having the account or console blocked. Buy one only if you accept these limitations.

What is controller drift and how do I test for it?

Drift is when a character or camera moves by itself while you are not touching the stick. Put the controller on a table and watch whether the cursor stays still in a menu or in a game, then move the sticks in every direction.

Can a digital edition play discs?

No, the digital edition has no disc drive. A separately sold disc drive can be attached to the digital PS5 Slim; in our sample such a drive was offered for 220 AZN.

Why are there so few Xbox and Switch listings?

As of 27 September 2026, our sample contained 2 Xbox Series X/S listings, 6 Xbox One listings and 1 Nintendo Switch console — PlayStation dominates the market. For these models it is more effective to save a search or post a "Wanted" listing.

Sources and methodology

The figures come from Prayk's public catalogue API on 27 September 2026: the 300 most recent listings in "Electronics → Games, consoles and software → Gaming consoles" (published 12–27 September 2026) plus 64 results of a "ps5" search in that section; 331 listings after removing duplicates. Models were identified by keywords in the title and description; game discs, controllers, PlayStation Portal, "wanted" posts and services were excluded, as were prices inconsistent with a console (below 500 AZN for PS5, 250 AZN for PS4 and 100 AZN for PS3). Medians and 25th–75th percentiles were calculated only from listings priced in AZN; we do not publish a median for models with fewer than 15 listings.
