Choosing a tablet: iPad or Android — for kids, school and work

A tablet's price depends first of all on the brand and series: as of 27 September 2026, the median price of recent listings in Prayk's "Tablets" section is 595 AZN, but at the low end Galaxy Tab A and kids' tablets sell for around 150 AZN, while at the top the iPad Pro goes for more than 2,000 AZN. Below you will find a price table by series, how to choose between iPad and Android, what matters in screen, storage and SIM, and a checklist for buying a used tablet.

Short answer: as of 27 September 2026, median prices on Prayk are: iPad Pro 2,275 AZN, iPad Air 1,399 AZN, the current base iPad (A16) 899 AZN, older iPads 265 AZN, Samsung Galaxy Tab S 730 AZN, Galaxy Tab A 150 AZN, Redmi Pad 430 AZN and kids' tablets 143 AZN. For school and video a base iPad or a mid-range Android tablet is enough; the Pro series is for drawing, editing and heavy work.

How much do tablets cost on Prayk?

The table is based on the 300 most recent listings in the "Tablets" section and all 73 listings in the "Samsung tablets" subsection; cases, keyboards, styluses, spare parts, graphics tablets, e-readers and interactive panels were excluded. The median is the middle price: half of the listings are cheaper, half are more expensive. "Middle half" is the range of the middle 50%.

About two thirds of the listings we measured come from stores, so the table covers both new and used devices: the iPad Air and Pro rows, for instance, mostly reflect store prices for the latest models (with M4 and M5 chips). We do not publish a median for series with fewer than 15 listings.

iPad or Android tablet?

  • iPad gets software updates for a long time, its apps are well adapted to the larger screen and it holds its value well on the second-hand market. There is no memory card slot, so choosing the right storage up front matters.
  • Android tablets offer a wider choice on a budget (Galaxy Tab A and Redmi Pad sit in the 150–450 AZN band), and many models have a microSD slot. How long updates last varies by manufacturer and series — check the manufacturer's official website.
  • Ecosystem. If you use an iPhone, an iPad will be more convenient; with an Android phone, an Android tablet makes file sharing and accounts easier.

Which tablet suits whom?

  • For a young child: an inexpensive tablet with a sturdy body (or a protective case). Kids' tablets have a median of 143 AZN, Galaxy Tab A 150 AZN. Set up parental controls: Screen Time on iPad, Google Family Link on Android.
  • For pupils and students: a 10–11-inch screen, at least 128 GB of storage and stylus support if needed. A base iPad (median 899 AZN) or the FE/Lite models of the Galaxy Tab S series (Tab S median 730 AZN) will do the job.
  • For work, drawing and editing: an iPad Air or Pro, 256 GB or more, and a keyboard. For professional drawing, a pen display is an alternative — see our guide to choosing a graphics tablet.
  • For reading: if you mainly read books, an e-reader is easier on the eyes and lasts much longer on a charge.

Screen, storage and SIM: what to look for

  • Screen size. 8–9 inches is compact and light, 10–11 inches is the most versatile size for school and films, and 12–13 inches suits work but is heavier.
  • Storage. 64 GB is enough only for video and a few apps; choose 128 GB for school apps, games and photos, and 256 GB or more for video editing. An iPad's storage cannot be expanded later.
  • SIM or Wi-Fi only. A "Wi-Fi + Cellular" or "LTE/5G" version works with mobile data away from home. Some newer iPad models have no physical SIM slot and support eSIM only — check in advance that your operator offers eSIM. Roughly one in five of the listings we measured (55 of 299) mention SIM, LTE or 5G.
  • Stylus and keyboard compatibility. Styluses and keyboards differ by model; check compatibility before buying an accessory. Accessories are in the tablet accessories section.

What should you check before buying a used tablet?

  1. Account lock. On an iPad, the seller must turn off Find My and sign out of their Apple Account, otherwise the device stays under Activation Lock after a reset. On Android, the Google account must be removed — after a reset the device may ask for the previous account. Ideally, have the reset done in front of you.
  2. Management profile. Tablets that came from a school or company may still carry a remote management (MDM) profile — look under "VPN & Device Management" in the settings.
  3. Model. Compare the model number in the settings with the manufacturer's list: an older model may be sold under the name "iPad 11".
  4. Screen. Look for dead pixels, blotches and a yellow tint on white and black backgrounds; test touch in every corner.
  5. Battery. Play a video for 15–20 minutes at high brightness and see how much charge is lost; check for overheating.
  6. Ports and buttons. The charging port, volume buttons, speakers, microphone, cameras, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth should all work. On a cellular version, test calls and data with your own SIM card.
  7. Body. There should be no bending, no bulging back cover (a possible sign of a swollen battery) and no signs of opening.
  8. Paperwork. If there is a receipt, box and warranty, check the purchase date.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a tablet cost on average?

As of 27 September 2026, the median price of the last 250 relevant listings in Prayk's "Tablets" section is 595 AZN, with half between 240 and 1,099 AZN. Depending on the series, the median ranges from 143 AZN (kids' tablets) to 2,275 AZN (iPad Pro).

Which tablet should I buy for a child?

A young child does not need an expensive model: kids' tablets have a median of 143 AZN and the Galaxy Tab A 150 AZN. Buy a sturdy case and set up parental controls (Screen Time on iPad, Google Family Link on Android).

iPad or Samsung for school?

Both work. The current base iPad has a median of 899 AZN and the Galaxy Tab S series 730 AZN. If the family uses iPhones, an iPad is more convenient; with Android phones, a Samsung. Choose at least 128 GB of storage.

Do I need a tablet with a SIM card?

If the tablet will be used only at home or where there is Wi-Fi, no — you can also share your phone's connection. If you often work on the go, a cellular version is handy; some newer iPads work with eSIM only.

How can I tell a used iPad is not locked?

Ask the seller to sign out of their Apple Account and run "Erase All Content and Settings" in front of you. After the reset, the device should go to the initial setup screen without asking for someone else's Apple Account.

Sources and methodology

The figures come from Prayk's public catalogue API on 27 September 2026: the 300 most recent listings in "Computers and laptops → Laptops and tablets → Tablets" (published 18–27 September 2026) and all 73 listings in the "Samsung" subsection; 356 listings after removing duplicates. Accessories, spare parts, graphics tablets, e-readers, interactive panels and listings under 40 AZN were excluded. The series was identified from the name in the title, and kids' tablets by the words "uşaq/kids" in the title or description. Medians and 25th–75th percentiles were calculated only from listings priced in AZN; we do not publish a median for series with fewer than 15 listings. The section holds 1,435 listings in total (including subsections, 27 September 2026). Prices are sellers' asking prices.
