What is a free classifieds site and how do you choose one?

On a free classifieds site you publish an ad for an item, property, car, service or vacancy without paying. The site earns from optional services: bumps, VIP, Premium, store subscriptions. But “free” does not mean the same everywhere: many sites cap the number of free listings per category and per 30-day period, and once the limit is reached the next listing is paid.

When choosing a site, look at five things:

Order: general-purpose sites first (by audience and features), then specialist sites.

1. Tap.az — the biggest audience

Tap.az is Azerbaijan's best-known general classifieds site: home and garden, electronics, transport, property, jobs, services, animals and more. Free listings work within a 30-day limit per category: for example 1 per 30 days in cars and vacancies, 2 in property, 1–3 in electronics and 5–10 in personal items. Once the limit is reached you can publish for a fee, or for free when a slot frees up in that category. A free listing stays active for 30 days.

Paid services depend on the category: a bump from 0.50 AZN, VIP for 1 day 2–3 AZN and for 30 days 12.50–25 AZN; Premium for 1 day 3–7 AZN and for 30 days 25–50 AZN.

Best for: anyone who needs a wide audience, especially for household items and electronics. Watch out: if you sell often, category limits run out quickly.

2. Prayk — free with no limit and the most tools

Prayk.com is a general classifieds platform: goods, property, cars, jobs, services, craftsmen, smartphones and stores. According to its public statistics the catalogue holds more than 590,000 published listings, including both users' own listings and listings collected from open sources (where the listings come from). For private users, listings are free and there is no per-category limit on their number. You sign in without a password, with a one-time code sent to your phone or email.

For sellers: in the listing form, AI fills in the title, description and category from a photo. For buyers: search by photo, search by car number plate, a map and listings nearby, market prices, and phone number protection that shields sellers from number harvesters. Prayk works in Azerbaijani, Russian, English and Turkish; the mobile app is on Google Play, the App Store and AppGallery, and there is a Telegram bot too.

Paid services (pricing): TOP 2 AZN/7 days, VIP 5 AZN/7 days (30 days — 15 AZN), Premium 9 AZN/7 days, bump 0.50 AZN, auto-bump 4 AZN/7 days. Store plans: Basic 20 AZN/month, Pro 60 AZN/month, Premium 150 AZN/month.

Best for: frequent sellers (no limit), people with no time to write listings, and anyone who checks the price against the market before deciding. Watch out: Prayk's audience is still smaller than Tap.az's, so posting on both sites in parallel makes sense if you want to sell faster.

3. Turbo.az — cars

A specialist site for buying and selling cars. Private sellers get 1 free listing per 30 days; after that a listing costs 8–30 AZN depending on the car's price. “Bump in search” from 3 AZN, VIP from 5 AZN for 1 day to 40 AZN for 30 days, Premium from 7 AZN for 1 day to 60 AZN for 30 days.

Best for: people selling a car. Watch out: the second car listing is paid.

4. Bina.az — property

A specialist site for flats, houses, land and commercial property. One phone number can post 1 free listing per 30 days, and a listing runs for 30 days. Re-listing a property that is already on the site and restoring an expired listing are paid.

Best for: people selling or renting out property. Watch out: if you have several properties, the free limit covers only one.

5. Lalafo.az — an international platform

Lalafo operates in Kyrgyzstan, Serbia and Poland as well as Azerbaijan. Posting is free, and businesses can buy paid placement services.

Best for: an extra channel for general buying and selling.

6. Boss.az — jobs and vacancies

A job-search site running since 2006: you can post vacancies and CVs, and there is a “Premium vacancies” section. Service prices are not shown openly on the home page.

Best for: employers and job seekers. Prayk also has a dedicated Jobs section.

7. Ucuztap.az — small stores and game accounts

Lets you post 10 listings a month for free and offers Free, Biznes and Premium store packages. It has separate sections for game accounts.

Best for: small sellers with a few listings a month.

Tap.az has the widest audience. In Prayk's Goods section the number of listings is unlimited and you can check your price against market prices. For the best result, post on both.

Cars

Turbo.az is the specialist leader, but gives private sellers 1 free listing per 30 days. Prayk's Cars section has no limit, and buyers can even find a car by its number plate.

6 tips to sell faster

3. A specific description. Brand, model, year, condition, size and flaws — answer the buyer's questions in advance.
4. The right category and location. An ad in the wrong category does not show up in search; set the city and district precisely.
5. Reply quickly. Buyers usually message several sellers at once — the first to reply has the edge.
